 1958 - 2009
Billy Mays, the seemingly obnoxious man who yells in advertisements whoalso shows a wonderful, funny and down-to-earth side of himself in the Discovery Channel "Pitchmen" with fellow pitchmen Anthony Sullivan, has passed away.
He was among the passengers who were injured (although not seriously) when a tire blew out in the plane he was flying on. Billy mentioned he was hit but he has "a hard head" and was supposedly fine a few hours after he landed. His wife was unable to wake him up the next morning.
We'll never forget you... Seriously we can't. I can literally still hear him from last week's episode :(
UPDATE: Autopsy reports show that Billy did not have severe head trauma as speculated (much like how Natasha Richardson died). He died of complications from Heart Disease. He also had his third hip replaced recently and was taking medication for it so you can rule out drug abuse. Man, what a way to go. |

| "The Hangover" |
[May. 22nd, 2009|09:11 am] |
| [ | Feelin' kinda |
| | lost my voice from laughing! | ] |

Vince and I watched an early screening of "The Hangover" at the Palms (why can't they have free screenings in Henderson? Dammit). We had the worst seats ever. No, we weren't sitting at the way front. We were sitting in the seats that are above the entrance and right by the stairs. Vince had to push himself against the wall just to see better while I was completely slumped over the chair, my left elbow already on the step, just so I can see past the railing. Despite this seating arrangement, this movie.... was fucking hilarious.
It's the story of the three best men (played by Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zack "Fat Jesus" Galifianakis) who take their buddy to have a wild night in Vegas before going back to L.A. for the wedding. The next day, they wake up to a completely trashed hotel room (there's a tiger in the bathroom!) and the groom is missing. They can't remember a thing, they were were so wasted. They spend the next 2 days tracing back their steps, trying to figure out what they did, where they went and how to find the groom before the wedding.
The situations that these guys find themselves in are ridiculous; one of them accidentally got married, they stole a cop car, they stole Mike Tyson's tiger, there's so much to mention without getting into the spoilers. I typically don't enjoy Vegas-themed movies but they did a good job here. The ending credits was great because it consisted of pictures that were taken from their digital camera, recapping exactly what happened the night before.
This movie has some big competition when it opens on June 5th. It's going up against "Land of the Lost" on the same day so I think WB is trying to build good word of mouth to give "The Hangover" a chance at the box office. As much as I like Will Ferrel, don't watch it. Watch "The Hangover" instead. |

| Observe and Report |
[Apr. 8th, 2009|10:28 am] |
| [ | Feelin' kinda |
| | happy | ] |

Last night, Vince and I watched a free screening of "Observe and Report" at the Palms. Apparently this screening was a big deal, a Warner Bros representative was present and took a demographic poll of the moviegoers, asking how many are men, women, under 17, 18-24, etc. We were treated to one trailer and it was the frighteningly, over-the-top "Termintaor Salvation". To think this is coming from the same guy who made the 2 "Charlie's Angels" movies...
Ok so onto the movie! We were blessed to have never watched or even acknowledge the existence of that "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" movie so there will be no comparisons. Vince pointed out that Seth Rogen was not the Seth we were used to from of the Judd Apatow vehicles or from "Pineapple Express". For starters, he's freakin' bad ass! You'd think he was some chubby, bumbling rent-a-cop doing a bad job but he's not. He is determined to protect his mall from a perverted streaker. In one awesome scene, he skillfully took down crackheads only using a hidden baton. The audience cheered and applaud when he was done. "Boom." I like Anna Faris but she was very annoying here. Yes, she is suppose to be this blonde, stuck up, druggy, whore but she just irked me. Ray Liotta was in here too as a real cop brought in to help the mall with the situation. He had the best tantrum explosion we've ever seen.
40 minutes into the movie, the projector stopped. We panicked, we though we got into a sneak preview screening but there's no such thing as that. I think this was a test. Before they resumed the film, that WB rep came out and observed the audience. If this was a bad movie, this would be a great excuse for a lot of people to walk out. The movie stopped again 6 minutes later. I would say no more than 10 people walked out, so that means the film IS good :P We stayed and enjoyed the rest of the film, all the way to the WTF ending.
It was a good night--except Vince's kitty, Ayumi, peed on the couch. We don't know what to do with her >_<
Oh... HAPPY BIRTHDAY VINCE :D |

[Mar. 23rd, 2009|05:13 pm] |

Took us a while but we finally finished playing Resident Evil 5. Vince played as the surpisingly buff Chris Redfield and I played as Sheva Alomar. It was my first time playing a Resident Evil game. I did play Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii a while back but it just a casual shooter. This was a fun experience, even with my inability to quickly turn around, bad aiming, wasting bullets, walking towards enemies, using herbs and first aid sprays at the wrong time and getting Chris killed repeatedly when I don't hit the correct button at the right time.
I want to try replaying in Amateur mode, though it doesn't look like anyone would want to play the game as a noob ;_; |

| Who Watches The Watchmen? |
[Mar. 6th, 2009|09:58 am] |

Like you didn't see this coming. Vince and I watched the midnight showing for "Watchmen" at IMAX. The movie was freakin long but rightfully so-- it had 12 chapters to cover! The movie was visually faithfully to the graphic novel, starting with a very iconic opening montage with Bob Dylan's "The Times They Are A-Changin'" as the background music. They really utilized the graphic novel as a storyboard, it was so eerily accurate.
For anybody who read the graphic novel prior to viewing it, there's no doubt you will enjoy the movie. You might nitpick on a few things but I really can't find anybody being entirely disappointed (like Indy & The Crystal Skull disappointed). Apparently, the hardcore fans will rant about a lot of things that are wrong with movie so it's a hit or a miss.
For anybody who's being dragged into it, this is warning: This is not your typical superhero movie. There is violence, BLOODY violence. And sex, HOT, SWEATY sex. And blue balls. Literally. These belong to Dr. Manhattan, the only member in the group with legitimate, almost god-like powers. This guy runs around nekkid so when he comes into full view, you can hear a few people chuckling. Seriously, we are seeing a glowing penis here. Anyways, it might seem too long and difficult to follow without being familiar with the novel so this can also be a hit or a miss. |

[Feb. 27th, 2009|10:14 am] |

**sighs** We're seeing that tonight or tomorrow. I'm really not looking forward to it. I admit that I have a passing knowledge of the Street Fighter games but even this looks wrong. A blonde M. Bison? Taboo from Black Eyed Peas as Vega? The hulking Michael Clarke Duncan as Balrog minus the red gloves? And Chris Klein looking nothing like Charlie Nash. I'll post a review if I feel like it. Vince is SO giddy, he's even wearing his special shirt for this event.
We have decided to make better use of the money that would've gone to movie tickets for a nice evening dinner. Yatta!

| | Mmm.... raw sea urchin | ] | On Valentine's Day morning, Vincent surprised me with an Edible Arrangement complete with a box chocolates and a heart-shaped balloon. My reaction? I squawked and hid underneath the covers. I was barely awake and I was so surprised to see such a gift. It was so sweet :) The cats were scared of the balloon.

Later on, we went to get our haircuts and then we went to Fashion Show. I wanted to buy Vince a 5 Year Anniversary and Valentine's Day gift so we both settled on what had to be the most unique watch we've ever seen at Fossil:

It's a S+arck watch but we dubbed it the Donut Watch. Try asking Vince the time. It'll take a while.
After that, we headed over to Caesar's Palace for our 8:30 pm dinner at Hyakumi. It was pretty packed in there. There was a group that wanted to eat there but didn't have reservations so it was an estimated to be a 2 hour wait. I made reservations 2 weeks earlier so we got in with no problems. Hyakumi's a great restaurant but it's the Sushi that was really worth it. The reviews said the already expensive entrees and appetizers had really small portions while some of the Sushi and Sashimi came in groups of 2 to 6. So we had about... hmm... 38-40 pieces all together. We recommend the Spider Roll. It is suspiciously awesome. |

I'm not gonna post a review because I already posted elsewhere **coughs** JimCarreyOnline **coughs** but it was really funny. Not cheesy, not (entirely) over the top, just enjoyable. I love the music score, it was composed by Eels, so I can't wait to get the soundtrack. |

| Wen-dee-su |
[Dec. 3rd, 2008|09:46 am] |
Vince and I went around the Fashion Show mall last night to look for a bday present for his mom. We stopped at the very vacant food court to get something to eat. There were several large groups of people scattered around the food court. Upon closer look, we noticed they were Japanese tourists. Lots of them! They were coming up the escalator every few minutes!
And it seemed like whichever place Vince and I were checking out, we were suddenly among the tourists. We were the first 2 checking out Nathan's, all of a sudden, 4-5 Japanese guys were behind us. We went over to Wendy's and that same group was behind us. The locals were not too happy with them, one customer even vocally complained - assuming they don't understand English of course - "The Asian is touching the fries".
Seeing that many tourists was very nostalgic, like being back in Tumon. |

No... this is not an entry of me looking forward to "Twilight". I've never read any of the books and I really didn't hear anything about this movie until this year. I can't understand how this suddenly got popular. I saw a short but better version of this story in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"... and that was a rock opera with puppets.
I'm especially annoyed how the dude playing the lead vampire is getting SO much attention for a role he looks almost half asleep in. Nobody made a big fuss about him in "The Goblet of Fire".

I miss Cedric Diggory :( |

| Quantum of Solace |
[Nov. 14th, 2008|11:40 am] |

Last night, Vince and I caught the midnight showing for "Quantum of Solace" at Green Valley. We were treated to a few trailers, the best being "The Spirit" and the most WTF-iest was Will Smith's "Seven Pounds". We really enjoyed "Casino Royale", which was a refreshing reboot of the Bond franchise. Did the sequel live up to the hype? Yes... and no.
"Quantum" basically picked up where "Casino Royale" ended. If you saw the ending, then you'll see how much Bond has changed. I'm not exagerrating when I say I almost forgot what movie we were watching, was this a James Bond flick or Grand Theft Auto? Almost throughout the whole movie, Bond is seen rapidly dispatching guys and stealing vehicles. There's no fancy gadgets or no blossoming relationship with a Bond Girl. He's KILLING people... and it was AWESOME. There was a plethora of quick action and fighting sequences, which was a bit overwhelming at first considering it's a Bond film but we definitely enjoyed it.
The story, however, was pretty weak here. Bond going on a vengeance rampage and the bad guy trying to control the world's most important resource (hint: not oil) didn't really hold up too well. The action sequences definitely make up for it but I still wish it had a solid storyline. And I didn't like their usual opening sequence. "Casino Royale"'s version was excellent and stylish but this one, not so much. Alicia Keys and Jack White do NOT mix.
Still, it was a good movie! I couldn't find the actual poster for some reason... |

We will be performing an urgent maintenance on all realms beginning at 4:00 AM PST. We anticipate no more than three hours of downtime. This maintenance is designed to correct a very recent issue where players were able to obtain certain PvP items without paying the intended price.
Once the maintenance concludes, players who obtained such items will notice them removed from their inventory. However. any tokens or arena/honor points spent on said gear will be appropriately refunded.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. |

| | disappointed | ] | Dan, Celia, Vince and I went to the Frightdome at Circus Circus. Dan got 2-for-1 coupons so it was Celia and I's first time to go there. Vince was totally against going there in the first place and now we know why: the horrible smell and the damn kids.
After almost an hour of waiting in line for the tickets, we finally got in. It was not impressive... There were employees badly dressed up and running up to random people, yelling and scaring at them. It was SO foggy and dark with stupid neon lights flashing about. We ended up falling in line for the roller coaster, much to my dismay.
When it was finally our turn to ride in, Vince kept shrieking, which effectively kept me scared/miserable as we slowly creaked up to the top. And after we dipped, I shut my eyes. At one point, my glasses actually fell off and landed on my lap! I was able to catch and hold unto it for the rest of the ride (Vince's glasses nearly flew off too). The roller coaster was only a minute long. We didn't even get a good picture, it was nothing but a white screen because of the flash. We couldn't go on any other ride or see the haunted house because of the LONG lines. We spent the next few minutes trying to find the exit. When we did, the guy there asked if were coming back and we all said no. We ended up going to the Wild Wild West Casino where, ah, interesting activities were happening in the bathroom and even in the cafe we were eating in.
Halloween is next week so we'll definitely need to find a decent haunted house to make up for the $35.00 X_X |

On Monday, my parents gave me a card with a bit of cash and my auntie gave me spaghetti. Filipino Spaghetti, to be exact. No meatballs, just banana ketchup, hotdogs and ground beef as the sauce. I had work that day but I wanted to get out a bit early. I got into a bit of trouble because I didn't tell anybody at work and Vince had the pleasure of coming in himself to make a fuss about it and embarrass my manager. After that, Vince, my parents, my auntie, my little cousin and I went to IHOP, where my dad was impressed - for the 3rd time- that Vince can speak Tagalog. Afterwards, we went home and my auntie gave Vince more spaghetti.
Rushed to catch "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and the 2 hour premiere of "Heroes".
And finally got to lvl 66! |

Castle Crashers is an awesome and addictive little game you get to download for XBox. We played twice because we he had to start ALL OVER. Our lvl 13 and 14 characters are gone along with how how far we progressed in the game. It screwed up again when we were suddenly taken back to the previous boss fight and our lvl 99 (?!) characters were nowhere to be seen as the boss fights blindly. I hope they patch this game soon >_<

| George Lucas sux |
[Aug. 11th, 2008|05:42 pm] |
A few years, the creator of Dexter's Laboratory introduced us to "Clone Wars". It was a wonderfully animated show that I was not able to follow. I only watched it because it was out around the same time with Samurai Jack (also from the same creator). It ran for 2 seasons and quietly ended in 2005. Then, out of fucking nowhere, the trailer and tv spots started showing up.
It was a pleasant show but does it really deserve a theatrical run? This kinda stuff should be direct-to-dvd and/or make its debut exclusively on Cartoon Network. George Lucas decided 3 years later that it should be a movie? Really? Are there really Star Wars fans that wanted this?? Oh wait, this is the guy who wanted aliens and gophers and Shia swinging with monkeys in "Indy 4". It made a lot of money but lost what made the trilogy great. What a big slap in the face for Steven Spielberg and Frank Darabont.
"Clone Wars" is appropriately getting early but very negative reviews after the advanced screening. And that's not the worst part. Lucasfilm has enforced a NO NEGTAIVE REVIEW EMBARGO, where negative reviews from notable movie critics are asked to be taken down or withdrawn until after 8/15.
Look, we get it. Star Wars is great but let it have a decent legacy ok? Yoda, Darth Vader and "The Apprentice" are on Soul Calibur IV. You win on that one... but don't go censoring critics on your bad ideas.
Oh, and studio plants trying to pose as normal peopleare welcome to diffuse this. |

Just when Vince and I thought all we had to worry about is the electricity when we move in on 8/8/08, he got news about our special apartment:
It's for handicapped people.
There are no drawers underneath the bathroom sink, there's no coat closet, the carpet is going to be less fluffy and the light switches are positioned much lower. And we thought we were lucky that our apartment was right near a ramp!
This will delay our move by a few days, the latest that we can move in is Tuesday. Because of this little oversight, Vince requested the rent to be lower, which they quickly complied.
Due to a series of unfortunate events, we will not be moving to our apartment as planned. We're bummed but it'll have to wait for another time. |

| The Dark Knight |
[Jul. 19th, 2008|01:01 pm] |

Last night, Vince and I waited patiently in line for the 8:00 pm showing of "The Dark Knight" at IMAX inside The Palms. It was worth the wait and we definitely recommend to watch it in IMAX and not just in a standard theater. The sound and presentation was AMAZING. And the best part? Not a lot of previews. IMAX only had two; the first was a 15 second "Harry Potter" teaser... 15 seconds of nothing!! A lot of people groaned while Vince cheered. Then there was "The Watchmen" trailer, which made excellent use of Smashing Pumpkins "The Beginning is The End is The Beginning" song. I'm not too familiar with the graphic novel but the song sold me :P
This movie EASILY tops "Iron Man". The performances, the cinematography, the score and the excessive use of violence and destruction that made you forget this was a PG-13 movie. There were several scenarios in the movie that never hindered the pacing. So many twists! This wasn't a superhero flick anymore, it was an engaging crime drama.
Christian Bale is still badass, still able to easily pull off duo roles as the smug Bruce Wayne and Batman. Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox has just a little bit more screen time than Michael Caine's Alfred but it notably comes into play in the third act. Sirius Black Gary Oldman as Gordon was great as Batman's ally. Until now, we could not get over how absolutely terrifying Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker was. He is truly cunning, maniacal but still funny. Not to mention the rise and inevitable fall of Harvey Dent, portrayed brilliantly by Aaron Eckhart. Maggie Gyllenhall as the "new" Rachel Dawes took a while to get used to. I wasn't too convinced that she stole Bruce and Harvey's heart. And she looked, um, so much older.
We have a feeling the ending was possibly re-shot due to the passing of Heath so there was no hint of a new villain. There are early talks that The Riddler is a top contender for the third movie. As long as he doesn't have bright orange hair or a tight green spandex suit like Jim Carrey did, that'll be good.
(speaking of Jim Carrey, I love this poster)

Saturday, we had our double date. Vince and I went to South Point for the first time and waited for Cindy and Dale to meet up with us to watch "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" (excellent movie, way WAY better than the first). It was SO awesome to see them nearly 6 years after we moved here. They were truly tourists, she took quite a lot of pictures. I'll definitely post them as soon as she emails me.
After the movie, we headed to the cafe nearby. I asked them to briefly educate Vince about Guam. It was in vain. (V=Vincent, C=Cindy)
V: So when you guys are swinging from trees, do you wait for a red leaf to fall so you can stop mid-swing? C: First off, Guam doesn't have any red leaves.
C: Our beaches are sometimes closed off because of the pollution but we do have a sewage system. V: ... So you have deep logs?
We talked more about Guam (Vince refuses to say "Chamorro" so he feels comfortable saying "Chocobo"), about the ever expanding Vegas, how I was back in high school, how the clubs and alcohol was a bit too overwhelming for her. A fly kept circling our area and we joked that this was just like Guam; we have to swat flys away from the food. The highlight of the night was the Cobb Salad-- it just didn't look like one.
We had one group picture taken before we parted ways because tomorrow was their last day and I was going to be their driver.
{to be continued... busy with work o_O)
Sunday
- Picked them up at South Point and took them to Las Vegas Outlet. - Saw the iTouch for the first time. It was Cindy's own. Cool! - Went to Frye's so that they can get their own external hard drives. - Watched Dale as he played Rock Band on expert.... EXPERT. - Couldn't find Gotham Knight on Blu Ray. - Went to In N Out Burger. Crowded as usual. Met up with one of their Guam friends who just moved here. - Went to Fashion Show Mall. Explained how retarded Vegas is for having an ABC Store. - Took them to my parent's place, where they gave them an update on how much Guam has - or hasn't - changed. - Biko and Tsuki were introduced but Cindy couldn't go into my room because of her alleric reaction to cats. - Dropped them off at South Point. - Had to go to South Point the next day because she left her South Point coupons and free ride pass for Vince and I since they didn't get to use it. - They're coming back next year! :D |
